Song question?

I was watching American Idol (yes I know, please dont judge me too harshly) and a red-headed girl (in what i ume was season one...with kelly clarkson) was singing a song that i remember but i have no idea who sings it...it talks about maryjane...so i googled it and there are several songs out there with that title, and no luck. It seems like one of those 80-early 90's hard rock groups that made a balad. Any idea?
